What do we want?
We believe that everyone should pay their fair share of tax. That means the people who have the most paying more than those who have less. To help make that happen, we want to give a tax cut to every average worker in the country by raising the amount you can earn before paying income tax, initially to £10,000 a year.
This would give the average worker in the country a tax cut of over £700.
Hasn't this already been done?
The Lib Dems have succeeded in delivering a tax cut of £600 for average workers which will make a huge difference (from April 2013). Now we want to go further. Those on the lowest wages are still paying more than they should.
How would we pay for it?
Through a number of changes to stop the super-rich being able to dodge their fair share of tax, starting with a "mansion tax" on the most expensive 0.5% of all properties.
Why do you need our help?
The super-rich are super-powerful and those that benefit from the current system will defend it. We need to show that most ordinary, hard working people believe that we should have fairer tax.

Add your name and together we can cut taxes for the average worker.

Taxes should be paid by people that can afford to pay.
£600 will help pay for the cost of the week pound and the inflation that this and quantitative easing brings. Presumably we have a weak pound because there is a lack of a clear industrial strategy and the Tories are hell bent on reducing growth through draconian controls on immigration. Join the Euro and Schengen to make a real difference to people’s quality of life.
What the use in giving people £600 over the year, when there is no jobs out there, in leicester, there is no jobs, so, how can you give people £10,000 Tax free income without jobs, and whats so far about charging people 80p Tax on there petrol, to me thats just day light robbery, this country and this rip off government are a bunch of day light robbery merchant,
Not a lib dem, but a great idea – I’ve been telling everyone who’d listen for a long time that lower taxes is the ONLY way to get the economy going again. If 95% of the working population have little or no money left once their bills have been paid, how can they buy cars, houses, clothes, electrical goods, holidays or invest or save money?? Good luck with the campaign. (NOTE : I have a well paid job and have an above average disposable income, so this is not just for my benefit)
I think this is a great idea as I have moved from benefits to employment being 1p over min wage and I am struggling more now than on benefits. This is why people stay on benefits cause its less stressful than being on min wage and struggling to pay bills rent council tax etc. lets hope this happens and improves our countries unemployment statistics!!! And general well being of people.
Taxes need to be taken on earnings, not house prices. This is inherently unfair as house prices vary hugely between regions meaning people living in similar houses in different areas may pay different tax rates regardless of wealth or earnings. Fair tax? I don’t think so.
If you are burgled then you can claim back on your insurance. Taxing a house value is just legalised theft without being able to insure against it. This is a tax borne of jealousy and is totally unfair.
Instead of trying to raise a couple of billion through yet another new tax, why not scrap Foreign Aid and windmills? That will save several times as much money and be completely fair on every UK taxpayer.
Alternatively (or also) why not just reduce spending by a couple of Billion? Easy done.
Whatever you do, unfair taxes are not the way forward. This one is just stupid. Whoever thought it up must be a right dick.
